LIFE+ MANEV PROJEKT

PROJEKTETS BUDGET:

  • Total budget: 4.165.832 €
  • EU medfinansiering: 2.076.153 €

Action: SARGA Scenario

Monitoring and evaluation of manure treatment technologies and management systems by SARGA

SARGA is going to assess the performance of three different manure treatment plants.

The treatment plant located in Peñarroya de Tastavins (Teruel, España) carry out a centralized management with the pig slurry generated in the farms of the area. It has a treatment capacity of 100.000 m3/year. The process units of phase separation in a centrifuge and the following biological treatment of nitrification/denitrification (N/DN) of the clarified liquid fraction are going to be monitored and assessed. There is a new treatment unit under construction, an anaerobic digestion step that is going to be introduced in the process line before the aerobic biological treatment of N/DN.

In order to make the management easier, 12 pig farms have a pump station in their own storage facilities, from which the pig slurry is transported to the reception tank of the treatment plant by pipelines.

The current process line of the treatment plant is made up of the following steps

  1. Reception and homogeneization of the pig slurry fed to the process.
  2. Solid/liquid phase separation in a centrifugue.
  3. Nitrification/denitrification aerobic biological treatment of the clarified liquid fraction generated in the phase separation.
  4. Land spreading of the end-products: a tretated liquid effluent and a solid fraction.

In the treatment plant of HTN Biogás, located in Caparroso (Navarra, Spain) the dairy manure of a 3.000 heads farm is centralized and managed next to poultry manure and other organic wastes coming mainly from the agrofood industry of the surrounding area. These facilities with an installed power of 4 MW treat around 600 m3/day and carry out an anaerobic digestion after a previous step of pasteurization process at 70 ºC for one hour. Digestate is separated in two phases in a centrifuge in order to make the end-product management easier. Both, solid and liquid fraction, are spread in the 5.000 ha included in the fertilization programme of the treatment plant.

The process line of the treatment plant is made up of the following steps:

  1. Reception and homogenization of the dairy manure, poultry manure and organic waste fed to the process.
  2. Pasteurization.
  3. Anaerobic digestion.
  4. Biogas recovery and electric and thermal energy production in a CHP unit.
  5. Solid/liquid phase separation of the digestate.
  6. Land spreading of the end-products: liquid fraction with a high nitrogen content and solid fraction with a high phosphorus content.

The treatment plant of Purines Almazán, S.L., located in Almazán (Soria, Spain), carry out a centralized management with the pig slurry generated in the farms of the area. The facilities, have the capacity to treat 100.000 m3/year in an anaerobic digestion process. The digestate is spread in the land surface of the area as a valuable organic fertilizer:

The process line of the treatment plant is made up of the following steps:

  1. Reception and homogenization of the pig slurry fed to the process.
  2. Anaerobic digestion.
  3. Biogas recovery and electric and thermal energy production in a CHP unit.
  4. Land spreading of the digestate in the land fields of the area.

It is intended to assess every process unit of the three treatment plants and the whole processes are going to be monitored following the guidelines of the CEMP agreed among all the partners in the Project. The critical points and the main strengthen and weaknesses of the systems are going to be identified.

The monitoring and assessment of the three treatment facilities will provide information related to the performance of different types of technologies applied to different typologies of manure.
